TTP Disease : What is TTP Blood Disease?

TTP diseaseIt’s Tuesday and I feel like writing a post about TTP disease. You might not hear of the TTP blood disease yet as it is not that popular.

TTP disease is a rare blood disease that causes blood to coagulate. Blood cells running through these microscopic clots become subject to sheer stress causing a damage on the blood membrane.

A rare form of this TTP disease is called the Upshaw-Schülman syndrome. It is a form of TTP blood disease which is genetically inherited.

TTP stands for Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura and it comes with 5 common symptoms which are: kidney failure, fever, neurologic symptoms, low platelet count, anemia and jaundice.

TTP disease can be cured through plasmapheresis. This process involves replacing the patients blood with a donor’s blood with no TTP disease. This would be done for daily for eight weeks until the patient’s blood normalize.

Do you know anyone with TTP disease?
