A lot of newbie nursing graduates waiting for the June 2009 NLE (Nursing Licensure Exam) results have made notice of my post and found the sexy nurse picture degrading to their profession.I’m tired of posting rebuttals of such comments so here’s an ultimate post in response. Consider this a tribute as well to all who love Filipinas, Filipina nurses and to the more discerning folks who love Sexy Filipina Nurses.

Filipinas nowadays are a commodity, believe it or not. A lot of foreigners, mostly old and fat, travel halfway around the world just to win their hearts. The more exotic she looks, the more sought after a Filipina becomes. Coupled with a nursing degree, this ugly, exotic looking Filipina becomes more in-demand and thus have more chance of uplifting her family from poverty–a small step to solving the country’s economic woes. We can even call these people “bagong bayani” along with OFW’s, teachers, musicians, politicians, doctors, call center agents, janitors… I almost forgot we consider everybody “bagong bayani” now.

Of course, the statement above is degrading to the thousands of nursing graduates in the country and more degrading to those who are products of the Philippine Nursing Diploma Mills (it’s always the low class who complains a lot about these sorts of things), but it’s also an honest observation, I might add.

The Filipino people, in general likes to make a make mountains out of mole hills when it comes to issues such as these. Hey, our PNP officials can even issue press releases against the movie Red Diary years ago for degrading the image of police officials and so our nurses does the same thing. Very funny. When Hollywood throws an unpalatable line about us, we make it a point to react. Remember Desperate Housewife, 30 Rock and the recent Alec Baldwin scenario? I’m not sure if we’re just onion skinned or lack the capacity to process anything above the usual slapstick humor.

In closing, let me say this again: Filipina nurses are one of the best in the world. Countries are even exporting their services because we have proven how capable Filipina nurses are. If some foreigner wants to get his very own exotic Filipina nurse, that should also be something to be proud of. It’s just the same thing. The latter though gets extra pay, like a house, for extra service, like marriage.
