Quitting Convergys and Going Back to School

With courage in tow, I decided to head home and start my life’s new chapter. It would most likely be a chapter mostly consisting of flashbacks as it is a continuation of an unfinished one. Uncertainty may not be an emotions but it’s what fills up my core right now. It’s scary cause it would entail facing the ghosts that once haunted and drove me to move to a new city. It’s also a good thing, perhaps, cause with uncertainty comes the hope of having something better.Don’t get me wrong, working for the Convergys, the best call center in Cebu, is one of the best things that happened to me. My year’s experience there is something I will always be proud. I’ve learned a lot of things that I could not possibly learn from school or government service and most of all I was blessed to have gotten a supervisor that has been very supportive and believed in my capabilities even if I didn’t and from that trust, I’m proud to say that my performance has been exemplary ever since the day I took my first call, which is a kudos call by the way. You may wonder why I’m leaving even with such a great working environment. Well, the answer is simple—it’s time.I feel like the shepherd, in Coelho’s The Alchemist, when he was working in the glass blower’s shop faced with the choice of staying or listening to the voice of the universe and pursuing his personal legend. It seems like the voice of the universe has been haunting me in both my thoughts and dreams again and this time it’s more persistent. I could stay but as the story goes, it’s better to follow the voice than choose the easier path. The urim and thummim has spoken and so, as the shepherd’s story goes, off to Egypt I go.

Turning A New Leaf

After more than three months of staying away from my blog, I finally decided to be back in the game, and this time it’s gonna be serious—dead serious.

If I have a solid audience, they would have noticed my lack of presence for the last 100 days and by now, my Gmail Inbox could have been flooded by questions regarding my abrupt disappearance from the bloggosphere. (Not that I should matter that much.) Instead, my mail is flooded with a zillion spam emails comprising mostly of comment notification requesting for Pinay Scandals, Cabal Hacks as well as those for Crazy Kart (no, I’m not trying to optimize keywords that have long been dead), spam emails about dick enlargement, erection supplements, and the likes. Although this realization may have caused the old die-hard blogger in me to despise the fact that I’m not as significant as I should be after a year of blogging, my new self just care, well, a little.

So why am I blogging again? –Good question! Well, if there’s one thing I miss about being a blogger, it’s the relief I get out of ranting and getting paid for it. But it’s not really the reason why I’m coming back, I was still getting satisfaction out of the residuals and I also found another outlet for my ranting… in forums of course. So what REALLY is? Well, simple, I got a netbook.

It’s been about ten months since i moved here in Cebu but I still haven’t made it official by bringing all the stuff that makes it feel home—internet access on-demand, a fridge, an actual bed, and a floor mat and a comfortable seat to relax on. I guess it’s because amids all the bitching about living in a small town with limited opportunities, I will never outgrow the comfort that it brings me, such as: ease of access to basic necessities, clean air and water, the warmth of family, the smile of familiar faces, and the joys of wandering aimlessly in the wilderness of the beach whenever possible. I guess the time has come to face the reality that this is me now and there is no turning back.

Two months more and it’s gonna be official, whether I like it or not. So the only course of action is to move my butt and re-incorporate the things that define me and so to start with, I got a hand on the cheapest piece of netbook a broke man’s budget could afford—the Eee PC 2 gigabytes surf from Asus and of course a prepaid Internet connection through Globe Tattoo. It’s the same as old Globe Visibility, they just made it sound cooler and changed the look of the modem to make it more competitive with Smart Bro’s new ZTE modems which of course is not readily compatible to the Eee PC’s onboard Xandros OS, a Linux distro. Thankfully, my current flat is located close to a Globe cellsite.

I’ve always told my friends that it takes me a year to adjust and i think I should be given points, or something for knowing myself that much. This might be what they call maturity (holly crap, I’m old!)
