Every Pinoy blogger I know has written a post about Manny Pacquiao specially a week ago, after his victory against Juan Manuel Marquez. Much of these posts are crap. A pathetic form of cult worship to an undeserving big-head who himself feels like he’s a modern day hero. Here’s a list of seven reasons why Manny Pacquiao should not be:
- He’s dumb. I know he grew up poor but even unschooled Pinoys can speak an English word or two. You can’t be a role model if you don’t have brains, dumb-dumb!
- He can’t keep his feet on the ground. Is it just me, or have anyone else notice that his recent victories made him a big-head? He always trash talks his opponents unlike when he was just starting up. He seem to be more tactless than Kris Aquino recently.
- He thinks he’s a modern day hero. Dude, winning a boxing match does not make you a hero. Stop talking about doing it for the Filipino people. We know you’re just in it for the money.
- He’s an adulterer. I can’t figure out how someone who don’t give women due respect falls into the role model category. It’s like saying Paris Hilton is the poster girl for virginity.
- He doesn’t know his limitations. He thinks he can be congressman and ran for office in the last elections. Even his money did not make him win. People knows he’s a joke
- He added to the demise of the entertainment industry. My god this man thinks he’s a good singer and produced his own album! I don’t even know why people loved it.
- He thinks he’s cute. Lol! he should stay away from commercials and movie deals. He looks more like a member of a terrorist group. Need I say more?

Hey, Manny Pacquiao is a boxing icon. I think that was a moronic review to say the least. Is he being worship? Yes of course as a phenomenal athlete. He wasn’t elected to office and his movie flop, simply because people don’t think he’s that much worth it except to be a great athlete. Look at yourself in the mirror. Us who posts regarding his achievement should not be insulted by you. If you want attention for yourself, please don’t do it at the expense of other people. I’ve seen people like you. Full of crap for that matter. I hope you have enough balls to apologize.

Lots of bloggers go to the extent of calling him a hero or a model to the youth. Even teachers at school teach their children about Manny’s feats and encourage them to follow his footsteps. Even the government likes to portray him more than just a boxing icon.
I don’t mean to malign any blogger who posts his achievement. I only pity those who makes him messianic.
With due respect, I don’t think I need to apologize to him or to anyone who feels affected by this post. Somehow, some bloggers just needs to be proven wrong.
Well, everything is yellow to the jaundiced eye. Crap, like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder or perhaps the beholder himself is crap.
Oops.

March 19th, 2008 at 5:23 am
As a person I would agree he should not be idolized but as an Athlete then that’s a different thing.
Filipinos know better, just look at his movie, it tanked and he didn’t win in the last elections.
Me an my wife don’t like Manny because he is a gambler, a bully, a womanizer, etc. but we cheered for him in his fight against Marquez.
A great person does not make a great athlete and a great athlete doesn’t make a great person. Just my thoughts…

I totally admire him as an athlete. No question about that. I even bought my dad and I tickets to watch his fight on the big screen. Even went to Cebu to do it. hehehe
I love the guy as an athlete. I just hate it when bloggers overstate his prowess. heheh

Manny should just stick to boxing because that’s where he is good at but I feel that his decision to move up to lightweight won’t be good for him. Did you see how big that Diaz guy is?
I hope we see a Marquez – Pacquiao 3… Marquez was really good. As much as a cheered for Manny but if I was a judge I would give the match to Marquez. Good thing I was not. LOL!

People admire him because of what he has achieved. It should never go beyond that.

good points! i have great respect and pride in him as an athlete but his other “conquests” (gambling, the girls on the side..) keeps me rollin my eyes..
keep it up! great blog by the way..

money and fame has definitely got into his head.he’s a hero, yes. he unites his countrymen every time he has a fight. they rally behind him but that ends there. he should know his limits. he should know his boundaries. he should know where and when to stop.
as an athlete, manny deserves the admiration. he’s focused and all but his personal life is different. he’s very far from being a role model.
how can I make a person a role model if that ‘hero’ is a gambler, womanizer and most importantly, politician’s pawn?

Manny Pacquiao is a role model but not in all aspects.
1. He’s not really a dumb. Lots of Pinoy who graduated college who can’t speak english. Manny is actually an elementary grader. He became a model in such a way that he tried to elevate his way of living legally from a very poor to a rich one.
2. I actually don’t fine him like what you have found about him. In recent fights, Manny might be talking “trash talks” to his opponent but it was not really a serious talks. In a way he talked, I know those were just jokes for us to laugh… and those were just part of the promotion of his fights.
3. We are the ones who actually made him think that he is a modern day hero. But we could really consider him a modern day hero in the sense that he made us unite even just in one hour by watching him fighting against his opponents. SEcondly, he became a hero because he made the dollar flow in to our hands, from USA to the Philippines, and that lots of poor Filipinos who became victims of the tragedies received his help and support.
4. He might be an adulterer. Well man is obviously an adulterer. No one is perfect even the Catholic Priests (remember of the pedophile cases in USA and Canada).
5. He actually knows his limitations. That’s the reason why he wanted to become Congressman because he believed he can tackle the responsibilities of a congressman. Who knows he has hidden ability.
6. He has talent in singing and the proof is, he successfully produced his own album. The only problem is, his voice quality is not yet enhanced.
7. Even if he has a bad looks but due to his popularity he became cute.
Actually, like other hero that our country had, he is not really a perfect one. but then there are things that made him a hero.
Consider Rizal….If we would consider the negative characteristics of Rizal, we would be thinking that He is not a role model. But we made him a role model not because of his negative traits but because of his positive traits and the things he did for our country

Nice points, Sel.
Geez I wonder how this post got to my front page. I never thought this is still relevant.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:07 am
Thanks…
Anyway, this post is still relevant especially that now everybody is preparing for the Pacquiao vs Dela Hoya fight. And this is a good post since it draws controversy. It’s one of the ways of getting backlinks and traffic.
Just don’t be upset if someone will post negative comments against you and your post as long as those comments are related to the post.

and one more thing….
It will be your advantage if you can write another post like this… a post that make your users think and post their thoughts. I am really trying to post articles that draws controversy but I still don’t have the talent. I still need to practice writing like this.

I only adore Manny Pacquiao inside the boxing ring. I have different perspective about his other stuffs.
May 27th, 2009 at 5:30 am
So not being fluent in English is equivalent to being a “dumb-dumb?” (I think just saying that shows who the real dumb-dumb is)
In lieu of that statement, that must mean 75% of the worlds population are “dumb-dumbs” for not making English their primary communique. (Like the nuclear scientists in Russia that can’t speak english)
Manny is actually quite humble in and out of the ring. I have yet to see this blatant “trash-talking” you describe. From what I recall in the 24 hour special with Manny and Hatton, Hatton was spewing all sorts of arrogant claims about how he thinks the fight will turn out.
It’s quite easy to dig-up and focus on the human flaws in anyone. I bet if I took all your flaws and threw it onto a table and convinced everyone this is why you shouldn’t be a role-model yourself, it would be just as effective as your blog post.
Possible reasons why you suck at life and try to defame others:
1. You’re jealous
2. You’re racist
3. You lack a fulfilling life
4. You lost a LOT of money after betting against Manny
May 27th, 2009 at 9:18 am
Geez. you should live in the Philippines and know Manny more. obviously the clip you saw is not what he really is.
Racism is not an issue here. a colored person is not using the racist card when he calls another colored person a nigger. dumbass!
i’m talking about manny being dumb in a pinoy concept. Average Pinoys can speak fluent english he does not and besides, all those punches he took on the head made him far more idiotic than some lower primate. that’s why he did not understand the WHO’s advise not to go home immediately.
get the picture?

Manny Pacquio sucks. I could beat his ass… of course, I am 9 weight classes above him.
