Premier League: Manchester City Stun Chelsea

Chelsea are perfect no more. Carlos Tevez slipped off a low shot through the legs of Chelsea’s Ashley Cole to hand Manchester City their biggest win, so far, in the young Premier League season.

City’s 1-0 victory ended Chelsea’s string of five-straight wins, but the defending league champions are assured of remaining atop of the table at least for one more week as they are currently four points clear of Arsenal, Manchester United, and City. Defense was the name of the game as both teams could not find a clean look at each other’s goal.

However, Tevez would not be denied in the 59th minute as the City captain defeated Cole on the move before firing from the edge of the penalty area. The ball zoomed past Cole’s legs and Blues keeper Peter Cech. Chelsea tried to rally but the Citizens defense proved too tough to crack even for the holders.

Gilbert Arenas Banned from Talking About Gun Incident

Gilbert Arenas, known for speaking his mind, will have to restrain himself from talking about a gun incident that led to a 50-game suspension last season lest he incurs the ire of NBA commissioner David Stern.

In an interview with the Washington Post, Stern said that he had told Arenas that it would be best not to talk about the incident and just concentrate on the future instead of dwelling on the past. “I said, ‘You know what Gilbert, I just want to tell you, I’m delighted to have you back…as far as I’m concerned, you should be talking only about the future and not about the past. And if anyone asks you why, you can say the commissioner told you,” Stern said.

Stern also issued the gag order to new Washington Wizards owner Ted Leonsis and the entire organization. Wizards spokesman Kurt Kehl said Leonsis will obey Stern’s decision regarding the issue. “The commissioner advised and suggested that Gilbert, the Wizards and Ted look forward and not look back, and Ted agreed with that advice and suggestion,” Kehl said, adding that the order was given without threat of fine, contrary to some reports.

Arenas was suspended last season after he brought guns to the Wizards locker room. The 28-year-old All Star subsequently pleaded guilty to felony gun possession and was sentenced to one month in a halfway house and was put on a two-year probation.

David Beckham To Sue Magazine over Cheating Allegations

David Beckham has vehemently denied ever cheating on wife Victoria and has vowed to hale into court a US celebrity magazine that published an article about the football star’s alleged tryst with a prostitute three years ago.

An agency that manages Beckham said in a statement that it is taking legal action against “In Touch” magazine for publishing lies about the 35-year-old Los Angeles Galaxy star. In a statement, the agency said that “In Touch” magazine’s allegations that Beckham slept five times with a prostitute named Irma Nici back in 2007 are “completely untrue and totally ridiculous as the magazine was clearly told before publication.”

“Sadly we live in a world where a magazine can print lies and believe they can get away with it. We are taking legal action against the magazine,” the management company said. Reports said Beckham wants a front-page retraction from the gossip magazine. Beckham, who is represented in the US by Bert Deixler and in the UK by Harbottle & Lewis, is reportedly also planning to sue Nici, the 26-year-old prostitute who describes herself as the “world’s most sought-after call girl.”
