Amazon Kindle Will It Be a Hit In the Philippines?

amazon-kindle-2Amazon Kindle, specifically the Kindle 2, the gadget that promises us to revolutionize the way we look at books and print media in general is already available here in the Philippines!

Yep, it’s free 3G service is already working unlike the old version of Kindle that only works through Sprint’s backbone in the US. I’m not certain if they are using Smart or Globe’s wireless 3G infrastructure but one thing’s for certain–Amazon Kindles’s 3G service works in the Philippines!

I’m not sure with the market’s pulse but I’m excited over the Kindle. It’s like the iPod for geeks! Who would not like a device that gives you free access to Wikipedia and lets you read your books while you are on the go? It even reads the book to you now that it comes with text-to-speech capability!

I believe only a fraction of the Pinoy population will rave about the Kindle or any ebook reader that would be made available in the Philippines. Reading is not really something that a lot of people enjoy. We prefer TV and have information handed to us through video. Hmmm. Perhaps I’m just pessimistic.

Oh well, I just hope that if ever something good would ever come from this E-book Reader mania that we all have today, it would be to increase the rate of people who loves books and learning from them. That way, we could be smarter and perhaps be more empowered!
