“We’re going to hold a vigil at the gallery of Congress as a show of force against this bill. We’re calling on all Filipinos who believe in the value of life to join us so that our lawmakers will be enlightened.”
Pro-Life Philippines chair Sr. Pilar Versoza
Getting a TV set a week ago to lessen my boredom during my days off work, I already prepared myself for the potential chaos it would add up to my chaotic existence. With TV comes the news and with news comes my desire to go back to politics and let my opinion heard, not that it’s too brilliant. Apparently, my preparations were not good enough and I went from being a devil-may-care-about-this-god-damned-country to the over-stressed-and-still-striving-to-be-politically-opinionated-bastard. I haven’t been for a year now.
I did not know that someone as old as Edcel Lagman who I thought was a is a devout (read: pathetic) Catholic would be courageous enough to sponsor, and fight for a much needed reproductive health bill. A bill the Catholic hierarchies, at least in this country, deem to be anti-life and pro-abortion.
After much research about the subject, I learned that this is not a new thing. The bill has been filed a few months ago and the Catholic Bishops of the Philippines and their minions has been expressing their contradiction publicly and even using fear mongering to make their flock go with their idea of what’s better for a country so overly populated it’s even exporting its own people. I found nothing on the bill that legalizes abortion, though. There is even no provision for post-copulation contraception, which I think should be included. The bill even sounds more than an executive order mandating health centers to educate people about contraception, which they have been doing already, than a landmark bill that commands much attention.
I can’t stand how hypocritical these pro-life groups are, specially the clergy. How could they even call themselves pro-life? They’re more like pro-living. They don’t care about life at all. They just like to stay in their moral high ground, arrogant and cocky, just so they can tell themselves that they are doing what their gods intended them to do. They don’t care if this these life forms would even have food to eat and education to back them up when they grow to adulthood.
Morality should not be derived from religion and so, the religious should not dare impose. They might have the number to boast but society knows a lot of Catholics nowadays are not practicing their religion because it’s not practical anymore. Morality, like the laws of the land is not infallible, and the genius of it lies in the fact that it can be change based on the needs of the times.
I guess everyone will agree that in these times, our population needs to be managed or were destined for more than just another rice crisis. Talk about “living” in hell. What kind of life will our posterity have if we do nothing as early as today?
Well, I guess this is the scenario that they would like us to be in. A modern day Dark Ages where people are so poor, they just turn to god to make them feel like they are more privilege than those who can eat three times a day cause god will be on their side when the last day comes. Funny, I never thought they would resort to this bullshit. Hope they would be more creative this time. It’s the Internet era anyway.

Leave it to people who took a vow of chastity but at the same time encourages their flock to pro-create is surely condemning people to slow death due to over population……..
What was really surprised me is the teaching of the Catholic church that condom is one of the abortifacient way of artificial birth control. The reason why they church opposes the artificial birth control method is because for them these are all abortifacient. I wonder how did they find out that condom and other safe artificial birth control method are abortifacient.
