The Church’s Sin and the Yellow Lady

My views about the church’s involvement on Philippine politics is pretty obvious if you happen to read my previous post about the EDSA Revolution. However, after learning about their official stand on the issue through the Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines’ (CBCP) press con, I had to make a change of heart. Just a bit, though.

It turns out, these bishops now sees that this country would not move on if mob rule should prevail and I admire them for that. Credits should be given to Fr. Joaquin Bernas, SJ, a prominent columnist in one of the country’s leading broadsheet and a Dean of Ateneo’s College of Law, whose opinion on political matters holds waters to his fellow clergy.

There are still some bishops who openly calls for Gloria’s resignation amidst the released collective opinion which shows how unfit they are to participate on political affairs. I mean, if you don’t know what a collegial opinion is supposed to be, why should people listen to you about complex politcs? Well, at least they make the rallies more exciting. Imagine seing them wearing their soutanes as they parade their fat bellies along EDSA. Doesn’t it remind you of what you dreamt a big Halloween costume party should be?

The church is more sober now that Cardinal Sin is dead. That old fart thinks he’s god, for Christ’s sake. He even makes press releases justifying his actions is guided by the “devine” and poor dumb people believe in him. I hope Cory is next in death’s wish list. People as hypocritical as the two of them deserves t be silenced.

Hacienda Luisita Scandal

How hypocrite would a former president who endured several coup d’état and hold on to power amidst that and now call for a sitting president to step down that easy. How hypocrite could a Cojuangco be when they talk in public about the people’s plights and manage to ignore the tenants of their Hacienda Luisita’s plea for social justice?

If the public can wait for the proper authorities, the courts, to settle such a gruesome matter as the Luisita Masacre, for the reason of justice being blind and that both sides of the story should first be exploited before jugement could be handed over, I can’t see any reason why mere allegation of irregularity on a contract that has long been expunged and an issue that is yet to tie the President to the supposed crime of corruption, needs to illicit such public commotion and lengthy senate probes.

It seems like in our society, one needs to hate somebody to be somebody and this is why lots of people go to rallies. They hope to be on interviewed by some media personality and enjoy seconds of fame. Well, I guess the ultimate solution for this would be a Pinoy’s version of America’s Got Talent and I bet Simon would agree with me.
